Distracted

The word “distracted” has become synonymous with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I have spent many years distinguishing between those who have the neurological condition ADHD and those who simply live and behave as if they have it. While the rates of ADHD have not increased, more and more adults appear to be struggling with attentional problems, and adult ADHD is largely underdiagnosed.

Through the evolution of our species, those who were able to notice new and interesting things had better chances of survival. Our minds evolved to look for anything novel and intriguing to stay fed and safe. Some might even say that our minds are wired to be distracted. However, it’s more appropriate to say that our minds are hard-wired to notice.
